About the Project

The Casteel Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information and to facilitate research on the Casteel name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Casteel name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual team studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Casteels), by time period (18th Century Casteels), or by topic (Casteel DNA, Casteel Occupations, Casteel Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Hello, So far I am connected to 35 Casteel on Wiki. I would love to join but I am afraid that I do not know how to join correctly. Also, I have quite a few Casteel that chose to, or for another reason, became Steel or Steele instead of keeping with the original spelling. Could someone help me with instructions on joining and what to do with the Casteel surname that became Steele?

Thank you in advance, Molly

Molly, Welcome to the Casteel Name Study. I added your name to the member list. You can add the sticker to your Casteel and Steele profiles, and the ONS Member Sticker to your own profile.

I am not sure what you would want to DO with your Steele's. They just are. I have some Piersons who became Parsons. Many surnames change spelling.

I do not understand how to attach the box around corrected profiles. I adopted Casteel-1509, and proposed a merge with Casteel-42, another owner.

How to attach the box? Sorry, I don't understand.

Here is a profile.

Ezedock Zadock Casteel 1754–1844 BIRTH 17 JAN 1754 • Bedford, Bedford, Pennsylvania, United States DEATH 11 JANUARY 1844 • Monroe, Ohio, United States

If correct profile, there is much documentation in profile of Casteel-151

I am willing to help as I can on this project. I am still learning Wiki, but will try and do what I can. My wife's father is a Casteel descendant through, David Sherrard about (1791-1877) and Eliza Casteel about (1795-1863). I will need some direction as I am still trying to figure out documentation protocols on this site.

While I am a fairly seasoned Casteel researcher, I am new to WikiTree. I'd like to join, but am stumped on how to do so. My particular interest is Ezedock Casteel and his descendants. I was his only descendant participating in the 1st and 2nd Casteel books published and have quite a bit of research to share. Zadock has numerous descendant through his granddaughter Delilah who m. William A. Roberts. She was d/o Zadoc's daughter Louisa who m. an unknown Athey. A particular goal is to determine the identity of that Athey. I have a theory based upon time and place, but it needs developing and may never be provable on paper, but perhaps by DNA. Of interest is that Zadoc and his wife Sarah Athey were BOTH grandchildren of Captain George Athey of Galway, the immigrant Athey. IDK if there are other Athey Casteel ties, but a project with Athey descendants may be interesting. I believe Zadoc also has provable descendants through his son Jeremiah. Please guide me on how to join. TYIA
