History
Catalpa Plantation was known as the Goodwyn-Bailey House and was built in 1835 in Coweta County, Georgia. It was built by the Goodwyn family that came from Virginia, the head of the family was Nancy Dance Goodwyn, who was a widow of Burwell Goodwyn. Burwell left a considerable estate to his wife. Nancy brought several slaves with her, some of the names of the slaves were mentioned in the court case Goodwyn vs Goodwyn (see below named slaves). Thomas Dance Goodwyn lived on the plantation where he raised his family and by 1860 the Real Estate value was $5000 and his Personal Estate was valued at $25,865. Tax list for Thomas showed he had about 400 acres of land.

Named Slaves
Slaves that were named in court case Napolean Goodwyn vs Nancy (Dance) Goodwyn. These slaves were sold at a sheriff sale from the Estate of Burwell Goodwyn. Elizabeth (Thweatt) Goodwyn (Burwell's mother) bought them, 1829. Then they willed to Napolean and in the possession of Nancy Goodwyn.

- 1873-1879, John was guarden of his mother Mary C Goodwyn's estate. as shown in Georgia Tax Record. John owned the majority of the land around Catalpa.
