- This page contains the approved rule for the structure and naming standard for Category:Civil Decorations.
Contents |
Approved Rule
- The categories for Civil Decorations are contained in a separate category stream to the Military Decorations category stream, as described below.
- A naming standard is established for individual Civil Decoration categories.
Scope
- The approved rule does not apply to those categories contained (or should be contained) exclusively in the Category: Aristocracy and Nobility category stream.
- The approved rule does not apply to those categories contained (or should be contained) exclusively in the Category: Military Decorations category stream. This category stream is managed by the Military and War Project, and will need to be the subject of a separate discussion/proposal, with collaboration with the Military and War and country Projects.
Structures
- Where a decoration has both a civil and military division, it's category remains the same but it has both [[Category:<country>, Civil Decorations]] and [[Category:<country>, Military Decorations]] as parent categories, and is contained in both category streams.
- Individual decoration categories are contained in the parent category for the country of their issuing authority.
- Examples use Australia as the <country>

Standardized Naming of Categories for Decorations
- Categories for individual decorations (landing level categories) to be the actual, official name for the decoration. This will mean very few (if any) existing landing level categories will need to be renamed, (unless currently incorrectly named).
- Any incorrectly named duplicate categories for an individual decoration, to be renamed back to the correctly named category, so there is only one category for each individual decoration.
- Any other incorrectly named categories to be renamed to the actual, official name for the decoration.
- If there are 2 or more individual civil decorations that have the same name but different issuing authorities in different countries, then the country of the issuing authority to be added to the category name in brackets (< country >).
Implementation
- Current category [[Category:Awards and Honors]] changed to [[Category:Civil Decorations]] DONE
- Sub-categories of [[Category:Civil Decorations]] are renamed to format [[Category:<country>, Civil Decorations]] DONE
- Remove the category [[Category:<country>, Civil Decorations]] as a parent category from [[Category:<country>, Military Decorations]], and replace it with [[Category:<country>]] DONE
- On the category "Civil Decorations" and on each Civil Decorations country sub-category page there will be a link to the category "Military Decorations" so that the other category stream can be accessed (and vice-versa on "Military Decorations" and it's sub-categories). DONE
- Categories for individual civil decorations (landing level categories) will be checked for accuracy of name. It is anticipated that very few, if any, will need to be changed. In Progress
- Any individual decoration categories not contained in the correct category stream will be corrected. In Progress
