This page follows on from the Categorisation in Wales - Page 1 which explains how to use the Category Picker to add categories to profiles.
It explains how to add categories manually in Edit mode, and how to set up new categories in Wales.

The Basics

There is general information on categories across WikiTree on the Categorization: Help page.
To write a category, use double square brackets to start, then the word Category, then a colon, then NO SPACE, then the category name, then two more double square brackets. Like this:

For Location categories, always use the smallest geographic category possible: the town/village/city, followed by the county. And if all you know is the county, then there is a category for that, too!

Where do I put it?

You start on the Edit tab of your chosen Profile. The Category goes at the top, like this:

Biography
Narrative biography about the person
 • (Note: No blank line between the Category and ==Biography==.)
This places the profile into the category. After you save, you will see the category as a link in green at the bottom of the profile page. Page 1 showed you how to do this using the Category Picker icon at the top of the Edit Text box. Check back to make sure you know how to do this, Categorisation in Wales - Page 1

Dual Language Categories

Many Welsh Locations are known by both their English and Welsh names. These can be significantly different. An example of this is Mold in Flintshire. Its Welsh name is Y Wyddrug and we can make a Parallel Category. This done with a template inside the Category and unless you are super confident, we suggest you contact the Category Team to help you with this. They would be delighted to help you to do it and would much prefer to help you before you do it than try and sort it out afterwards!

Category Information Boxes

Category Information Boxes (CIBs)are Templates used to apply standardised information to different types of Category. Usually they are all that is required on a Category page. If necessary, a single line of additional text can be added below the CIB to explain any peculiarities about how the category is meant to be used. Detailed descriptions of the subject of the category should go on a Free Space Page, linked to the CIB using the "spacepage=" parameter.

Do you want to know how to make a CIB?

If so you possibly should be thinking of joining our Categorising Group. Let's see how it goes on Page Three.
