Category Information Boxes - CIBs
- Just to repeat where we got to on Page 2 -
- Category Information Boxes (CIBs) are Templates used to apply standardised information to different types of Category. Usually they are all that is required on a Category page. If necessary, a single line of additional text can be added below the CIB to explain any peculiarities about how the category is meant to be used. Detailed descriptions of the subject of the category should go on a Free Space Page, linked to the CIB using the "spacepage=" parameter.
Place (Location) Categories
- General information about place categories is here: Welsh Place Name Categories. The page explains what qualifies as a "Place" in Wales, and how to nest the place into the category hierarchy.
- The Location CIB for use in Wales is this:
- {{CategoryInfoBox Location
- |parent=
- |parent1=
- |parent2=
- |project= England
- |team=
- |wikidataID=
- |coordinate=
- |webpage= http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/###
- |webpagetext= Vision of Britain
- }}
- {{CategoryInfoBox Location
- The Location CIB for use in Wales is this:
- To find the required information to complete the CIB, go to the website https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Main_Page and search for the place. Scroll down to near the bottom of the page, and check that there is a "Vision of Britain place ID". (Note that this is not the same as a "Vision of Britain unit ID".)
- If the location has neither a Wikidata page and a Vision of Britain place ID, the Welsh Project does not consider it to be a "place".
- In the CIB, "parent" is the historic county as named in Wikidata. "team" is the Welsh Project county team, usually the same as "parent". The "wikidataID" is the number, beginning with Q, shown in the Wikidata web page address - include the Q with the number in the CIB. Copy the Vision of Britain place ID number to replace the ### in the "webpage" address in the CIB template.
- Now scroll back up the Wikidata page to find the map labelled "coordinate location". Click on the coordinates on the map (which are in degrees, minutes and seconds) to be taken to the GeoHack website. Copy and paste the decimal format coordinates (at the top of the page) into the "coordinate" parameter of the CIB. Job done! - don't forget to Save!
- If the location does not qualify as a "Place" - for example, a hamlet associated with a village such as Ludchurch in Pembrokeshire which is not in Vision of Britain or Wikidata, or indeed a small district within a town - you can still use the CIB. The "parent" will not be the county, but the "Place" (town/village/city)of which the location is part. For ease of searching we also add Location County into parent1 Delete the "webpage" and "webpagetext" lines if there is no Vision of Britain entry, or replace with an alternative website if one exists.
- If there is a Wikipedia page, do not add it directly as a "webpage", but look for the Wikidata link (in the panel on the left hand side of the Wikipedia page), and use the Wikidata ID instead. That will automatically generate the link to the Wikipedia page in the user's own language.
Churches and Chapels Categories
- In Wikitree these are called Religious Congregations, and we follow this by having a double categorisation for Churches and Chapels. The Churches and Chapels are a subcategory of Wales, Buildings. This last one is worth a quick glance as it includes, Castles, Historic Houses, and Monastic Houses.
- We encourage people to add the Church or Chapel Category for Baptisms and Marriages, but use the associated Cemetery Category for Burials.
- [[Category: County, Churches and Chapels]]
- {{CategoryInfoBox Congregation

- |coordinate= (decimal format - required)

- [[Category: County, Churches and Chapels]]
- Again, you can copy from this page to ensure you have it all. You will see that we have added an Image. This will be displayed as a little image at the top of the CIB. Have a look at St Bueno's in Trefdraeth See how the Cemetery link in the CIB takes you to the Cemetery, and the Affiliation link in the Cemetery CIB takes you back to the Church.
Cemeteries Categories
- The CIB template for cemeteries in Wales is shown below, you can copy directly from this screen onto a new Category which will save you LOADSA time
- {{CategoryInfoBox Cemetery

- |parent1= (present county) (required)
- |spacepage=
- |location= (place, county) (required)

- and so, if you were to create a Category like this
- Then your CIB would turn out like this, regardless of the order you put your data
Other Structures
- For Schools, Historic Houses, hospitals, etc., the Structures CIB Template can be used
- {{CategoryInfoBox Structure
- |name=
- |aka=
- |address=
- |parent=(required)
- |parent1=
- |parent2=

- |spacepage=
- |location=(place, county) (required)

- In this case, the parent category needs to be completed in full, e.g., "Radnorshire, Schools", or "Flintshire, Historic Houses".
Nobility
- For the categorisation scheme for the Nobility of the British Isles, including the Peerages and the Baronetcies, see this page: British_Isles_Nobility. The page explains the difference between "England", "Great Britain" and "United Kingdom", and when it is appropriate to use each.
