1480AD
I greet you well, and I have received a letter from you written at Calais the 13 day of May, the which letter I have well understood, of you being at the marts and of the sale of my middle wool desired by John Descermer and John Underhay. Wherefor, by the grace of God, I am minded to ship this forsaid 29 sarplers, the which I bought from Wyll Medewynter of Northleach 26 sarplers, the which is fair wool, as the wool packer Wyll Breten said to me, and also the 3 sarplers of the Rector’s is fair wool – much finer wool than was there before, the which I shipped before last Easter. The shipping has begun in London but I have not shipped as yet, but I will after this holy day [Whitsun], for the which I will ordain you for the freight and other costs. This same day your brother Richard Cely has ridden to Northleach to see and sort/appraise fells for me, and also sort/appraise fells for you and Rychard Cely. Wyll Cely has gone with him, God be their speed. And as for such matters that the Fellowship came to London for, I can write nothing to you for I was in the country. Thomas Borgan, mercer, sent to me to deliver money to be exchanged by hand, but I have taken none from him, nor from any man, but I will that you deal with Burgan’s man [if] he sends another man. Gilberde Pamar is from Borgan. I pray you do as well as you can in making over of money, for I fear Rychard Cely will charge to me for fells in the Cotswolds, and he well liked the parcel which I have sent him for his living. Also your horse Bale is fair, wherefore I would have you send got him, there is no sale of horses here. I write no more to you, but Jesus keep you. Written at London the 22nd day of May/
by Rychard Cely.

Dorse: To Jorge Cely at Calais be this delivered.
