Census of Slaves, 1755
This source is a short extract from O'Callaghan, Edmund. The Documentary History of the State of New-York. Vol. 3 (Albany, New York, 1850; pages 503 to 521 of this edition) that was circulated under separate cover and ended up in a library collection.
It consists of lists of slave holders in the state of New York in 1755 and the names of the people they enslaved. Slaves were enumerated in a special census conducted in 1755 in response to an act of the state legislature. The counties of Albany, New York (i.e., Manhattan Island), and Suffolk are not included in the collection of lists.
