Joseph Chambers lived in Iredell Co, NC. He was a plantation owner and business man with ventures in MS as well as NC.[1] It is unknown when Joseph purchased his plantation in Mississippi. This plantation was jointly owned between Joseph Chambers and his nephew, Joseph Franklin Chambers, the son of Maxwell Chambers, Joseph's brother. The Mississippi Plantation, located in Lowndes Co, MS, was sold to Mr. John and Joseph Toland, along with some of the enslaved.[2][3][1]

The Chambers family had many slaves, most of which lived on the Farmville Plantation. Joseph Chambers kept a book of plantation records. He recorded the names, birth dates, and death dates of the enslaved, as well as how they were related to one another.[1] He also recorded each of the enslaved persons he sent to the plantation in Mississippi.
