My grandmother was chapman from somerset, england and some of great grandfathers were mayors of bath
Thanks so much, Paula. I am hoping to find a descendant of Henry Levi and Lavinia (Mobley) Chapman [married 1789 Wilcox, AL] that may know where an old family Bible might still be. This Bible was first in the possession of Lavinia and then she passed it to her son James/John Alexander Chapman. Lavinia is a descendant of Edward Mobberly my umpteenth great granduncle. This Bible supposedly has proof that Edward married Susannah Duvall in about 1750 in VA. I realize this is a long-shot, but have my fingers crossed. I've queried the members of the Chapman Family Society but no success. Thanks!

I just saw that you started a Chapman name study recently. I have a Chapman line in my family starting with my great grandmother Emma Robertell Chapman. I have a link on my profile page to my earliest known Chapman ancestor (Nathan Chapman). Let me know if you want more information on this line.
