Chesire Places Where Ormes Lived

Macclesfield

During the late 1700's and through the 1800's there were a lot of Orme families in Macclesfleld and the surrounding villages. So much so that untangling them all is not easy! There are 12 Orme memorial stones in Macclesfield St Michael alone.

This study begun with the ancestors of Orme-81. The earliest traced at the time of writting is JJohn Orme (bef.1732-).

The intention now, is to attempt to create a fuller picture of Macclesfield Ormes on WikiTree.

A search of the 1841 England and Wales Census finds 1,490 people with the surname Orme, 162 of those were living within 5 miles of Macclesfield.

Congleton

Of the 1,490 people with the surname Orme recorded in 1841 England and Wales Census, 17 were in Congleton. Households (living within 5 miles of Congleton):

1. Family of James Orme (1791-1848), 8 people. Moved to Congleton from Macclesfield 1835-1839.
2. Edward (age 92, born about 1749) and Mary Orme, 2 people
3. Family of Thomas Orme (about 1806), 5 people.
4. Nathaniel Orme (age 25, born about 1816)
5. Elizabeth Orme (age 40, born about 1801), living at Great Boughton
