The closure of Apple Tree Creek Cemetery for new burials led to the establishment of Childers Lawn Cemetery in 1983. Apple Tree Creek Cemetery historically served most burials in the Isis Shire until the council decided to limit future burials there due to space and convenience issues, restricting them to existing plot holders.

Childers Lawn Cemetery was built on Huxley Road, a few kilometers from Childers CBD, on a property purchased from the Irrigation and Water Supply Commission in the mid-1970s. The initial design included 90 gravesites, along with amenities like gravelled carparks, reticulated water, and landscaping. The council allocated a budget of $60,756 for the development.

Later on, the Childers Lions Club received permission from the council to fund and establish a Columbarium for cremated remains. The cemetery conducted its first burial in March 1983.
