I am trying to connect all these Littles in Hutton and Corrie. Farm tenancies are known for many. Unusual Little given names, such as Francis and Peter probably indicate family connections.

Francis Little (abt.1725-aft.1758)

Helen Little (1748-aft.1748)

James Little (abt.1740-aft.1774)

James Little (1741-1807)

James Little (abt.1745-aft.1795)

Jannet Little (1732-1809)

John Little (abt.1715-aft.1748)

John Little (abt.1720-aft.1749)

John Little (abt.1720-aft.1753)

John Little (abt.1730-aft.1764)

Thomas Little (abt.1715-aft.1745)

Thomas Little (abt.1735-aft.1767)

William Little (abt.1740-aft.1772)

Ned, This is all convincing. Before I correct the baptism of William from 1749 to 1738, do you think the gravestone could be read as 1836 for the death, not 1826? Then all bets are off again! I cannot find any 1738ish baptisms.

There is another William Little from Hutton and Corrie that I recently discovered as my correct ancestor that is not listed here. He is buried with family members at Sibaldbie, Applegarth cemetery. He lived from about 1738 to 7/7/1826. Previously my genealogy showed William Little 1749 to be that ancestor but I have found multiple pieces of evidence to show William 1738 to be the father of my ancestor, William Little (1786-1847) who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1810's. His first wife, Jean Graham, died in 1777 at Corriemains farm. This is were the entire next generation of both his first and second wife, Jannet Chalmers, were born. . I believe that James Little 1741-1807, buried in the same cemetery, is likely his brother. My DNA results connect me to James' descendants who settled in White County, Tennessee, USA. I have discovered that connecting families to a parent named William Little is a real challenge using the Scottish records. Since there are so many William LIttles and no age is shown for the parents, it often comes to a best guess. And the guess that was previously made on this branch of the Little family that is widely circulated was wrong. I have other evidence, such as a son of William Little 1738 listed on the same stone (Andrew) matches the Andrew that is shown as his son in the Scottish records. The wife's name is shown as Jannet Chalmers in the records. Her name on this stone is Jannet Chambers. These two names are often confused in records because both names mean the same thing and were used interchangeably. The stone shows Jannet Chambers as dying at Corrie Common which makes far more sense than the Jannet Chalmers that is shown in other trees as dying in Dundee, Angus far away.
