Ed Christensen was a man of genuine Christian faith. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and kind-hearted man who gave of his time and talents to help others. Edward C. Christensen, 99, of Wooster and formerly of Galion passed into the Lord's presence on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Danbury Senior Living Center in Wooster.

He was born July 30, 1919 in Henry, South Dakota and was the son of the late Chris and Helen (Bauman) Christensen. Edward married Betty Hildebrand of Edison Ohio on January 16, 1948 who preceded him in death on October 13, 1992. He married Delpha H. (Ward) Lyon. She also preceded him in death.

Ed grew up on a farm and worked two terms of assignment for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He also served his country in United States Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he participated in the "liberation" of Guam.

Ed worked at the former North Electric Co. and retired from the former PECO II both in Galion. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church for 46 years where he taught Sunday school class and served on various boards and committees. Ed was currently a member of Apple Creek United Methodist Church.

He loved music, gardening and nature. Ed was also an avid hiker. Along the rural roads near home, Ed logged approximately 4,000 miles in a four-county area and picked up aluminum cans for recycling donating nearly $3,800 to charity.

He is survived by sons Jerry (Karen) Christensen of Marble, NC, Donald (Brenda) Christensen of Youngstown and Eric (Sherry) Christensen of Redmond, WA; step-children Cheryl (Lonnie) Sipe of Bucyrus and Sandra Lyons of rural Bucyrus; grandchildren Megan Christensen, Kelly (Stephen) Bush, J.C. (Marghie) Christensen, Joy (Joseph) Patterson, Emily (Alan) Hoornstra, Peter (Andrea) Christensen, Ty (Lindsey) Christensen, Evan Christensen and Olivia (Michael) Bowker; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Kenneth Curren officiating. Burial will be in Rivercliff Cemetery, Mt. Gilead.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the VFW Post 8054 and AMVETS Post 87 Honor Guard.
