In some of the information on WikiTree it says: 1577 Two women from the Gentry, Elizabeth Christmas and Mistress Sampforthe (or Simpcote), were thought to be the instigators of the libel thrown into the shop window of Robert Younger. 1579 Examination of Robert Younger, 1579, before Richard Thurstone and William Turner, Bailiffs. The libel, thrust into the shop windows of Robert Younger, 2 February, 1577, was sewn up in brown paper. It was carried to Mr. Hunwickes. Younger accused Mistress Damforthe and Elizabeth Christmas, as disseminators of the libel. Sometimes referred to as Thomas the younger, he served as Bailiff eight times between 1497 and 1519. 1485-8 Referred to in an arbitration case as one of the wel beloved brethren and the younger son on Thomas Christmesse at the moothall.
Looking at it, I don't think that this is the Elizabeth Christmas because by this time she was married to: John Lucas then married Elizabeth Christmas and they had three children: Elizabeth Lucas 1547c Essex, Margaret Lucas 1549c. Essex, John Lucas 1550c, John Lucas died 6 November 1566 in London WILL (I can't find the will on British archives).
Thanks for the work you are doing. Nga mihi nui (very best wishes) Bronwen Summers Otautahi / Christchurch Aotearoa
Draft document for Christmas family in Colchester produced.
I think there is enough material out there to at least make a start. We should be able to find many of his descendents and with luck be able to link to Sir Thomas "1st Baron Audley of Walden" Audley KG. Lord Chancellor of England from 1533 to 1544. I have made a start but I am new at this and need help with research.
