Incorporated in 1819, Cincinnati quickly grew to be an influential American city. In its early years, it was a center of pork processing in the region, and, from 1810 to 1830, its population nearly tripled, to 24,831.[1] That made Cincinnati the eighth largest American city by population in 1830 and, by 1840, when it had nearly doubled its population again, to 46,338 residents, it was the sixth largest.[2]
