Introduction
This is the spacepage for the cemetery category, Claggan Presbyterian Church Graveyard. Profiles of burials can be found sorted alphabetically on that category page.
See Space:Claggan_Presbyterian_cemetery_inscriptions for selected burials sorted by family name, and a link to a transcription document.
The church is in the townland and village of Clagan, in Lissan Civil Parish, County Londonderry however locally it is associated with Moneymore village just to the north.
There are currently no headstone photos on Findagrave for this cemetery -- anything would be a welcome addition; and/or attach photos to the Wikitree person profiles.
Church history
The church was built in 1846. The founding sponsors were James Bell of Dunmore, Robert Crooks of Claggan, William Jackson of Crievagh, and Robert Bell of Dunmore. [1]
The burial ground is on a hill called Crockainé near to Cookstown -- which is the easternmost of all the hills with the prefix Crock. The place used to be avoided by locals due to being haunted by a banshee called Ainé , however she departed once the ground came to be used for Christian burials. [2]
Parish registers
The baptism register is microfilmed and stored at PRONI. The only way it can be viewed is by visiting the PRONI office in Belfast.
I enquired with the church in May 2021 if they would allow the register to be photographed for a full transcription; but they declined this request, saying that they would do lookups but only for specific family members. McNabb-412 00:52, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
