There is no "Clan" Borthwick. Clans are Highlanders. The ancestor of this family came to Scotland with Queen Margaret from Hungary and are originally from Livonia, having gone to Hungary to fight the Turks. The tartan is (like my own family's and most others) a 19th century creation. This is a Borders family, not a "clan".
