Surname Variants

Clawson, Clauson, Clausen, Closon, Clason and all others except Closson. Closson has its own one name study.

Task List

1. Create a profile for all Clawsons in your family tree that do not exist on Wikitree. Remember that Wikitree is a One Family Tree, if a profile already exists, don't make another one.

2. Chose the male Clawson ancestor that you believe began your line and research him, Write a biography for him, making sure that everything you enter on his page is sourced.

3. Create a profile for any Clawson family member that you found during the research (wife, father, mother, siblings, children, grandparents, etc) that doesn't have a profile on Wikitree.

Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Hello, I am working through a GEDCOM comparison from one of the trees my late mother managed on ancestry.com, which includes numerous Clawson profiles. I would like to know if anyone has information on the family of John Clawson (b. 1762 in Roxbury, Morris, NJ) and his wife Grace Martin (b. 1766), who moved to Utica, NY, where their oldest three children were born (Joseph 1792, "Kernelius" 1794 and James 1796), then moved to Cussewago, Crawford, Pennsylvania and had another six children between 1797 and 1809 (Jane, Zephaniah, Martha, Elizabeth, John and Martin). A match has been suggested between James (b. 1796 in Utica according to my mother's research) and Clawson-107 (born "before 1796 in Pennsylvania"). I have also found references to (perhaps different) John Clawson in records of New Jersey wills. I would appreciate help in sorting out the various early Clawson families before deciding which profiles can be matched and which must be added to WikiTree.
