The Smoking Snakes Team
This Team participates in the Challenges and Thons held throughout the year on WikiTree, and focuses on Brazilian profiles. Everyone is welcome to participate!
Brazil is a sub-project under the umbrella of the Latin-American Heritage Project, and communicates in the Latin America Discord chat.
Why the Smoking Snakes?
The Cobras Fumantes, or Smoking Snakes, was the nickname of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB), active during World War II. Brazil was not, and is not to this day, known for its global military influence, and it was joked that "it would be easier for a snake to smoke a pipe than for Brazil to participate in the European war."
In 1942, after the United States joined the Allies and established bases in Fernando de Noronha, FEB joined the war effort, creating their motto "The snake is smoking."
