About the Cohens
Most Cohens of Jamaica descend from Judah Cohen (1768-1838) and Hyman Cohen (1761-1845).
Judah was born around 1768 in Amsterdam. He was a London-based Jewish merchant who along with his brother (and business partner) owned plantations in Jamaica. Since 1804, he was involved in the slave trade of the British West Indies. Some of his descendants and relatives are of partial African descent.
