Notes on Contents

Volume 1 (1891) contains Records of the Reformed Dutch Churches of Hackensack and Schraalenburgh, New Jersey, 1686-1802, in two parts.

  • Vol. 1, part 1, is Hackensack. It contains pastors 1686-1833; members 1686-1763, 1769, 1782, 1791-1801; marriages 1695-1752, 1790-1792, 1799-1802; baptisms 1686, 1689, 1694-1802; minutes of the consistory including elders and deacons 1686, 1694-1723, 1749, 1757-1782, 1792, 1797-1801.
  • Vol. 1, part 2, is Schraalenburgh. It contains pastors, 1731-1756; elders and deacons 1731, 1748, 1753-1766, 1784-1799; minutes of the consistory 1749-1756; members 1733-1801; marriages 1724-1768, 1784-1802; baptisms, most with birth dates, 1724-1801.

Some additional Schraalenburgh records are available on Ancestry.com in the collection "Holland Society of New York; New York, New York; Schraalenburgh I, Book 73." (Was there a second Reformed Dutch Church at Schraalenburgh?)

Vol. 3 (New Paltz). Full title: Records of the Reformed Dutch Church of New Paltz, N.Y., containing an account of the organization of the church and the registers of consistories, members, marriages, and baptisms; by Reformed Dutch church (New Paltz, N.Y.); by Versteeg, Dingman; Published 1896. This record includes events performed at Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York meeting house, until a local church was built and staffed; and commencing January, 1760, services led by New Paltz Dominies were performed twice on Sunday at Shawangunk church during summer and once during winter months. These records cover the period 1683-1816, but are missing between 1702 and 1730 that may be covered in the Kingston Records. Considering the long distance to Kingston, the New Paltz Church serviced a wide area in southern Ulster County, a marriage or baptism recorded in these churches does not mean the event took place there. Early Records were in French, while later records were in Dutch and English.

Available online at these locations:

  • Vol. 1, Parts 1 and 2 (1891) - Records of the Reformed Dutch Churches of Hackensack and Schraalenburgh, New Jersey
  • Vol. 1, Part 2 (Schraalenburgh)

There is a book of later records:

That's a nice find. I have a hunch that it's something that FamilySearch opened up to free access rather recently, after getting permissions from the copyright holder(s).

This WikiTree page documents sources in the publication series Collections of the Holland Society of New York. (It is not a page for New Paltz records.) That book is not part of the Collections of the Holland Society, so we would not list it on this page.

You could create a separate Source page for it, add that page to Category: New Paltz, New York and Category: New York, Sources, and add a listing for it (under "New Paltz" in the Ulster County section) on Space:Sources-New York.
