About

This project will catalog and document all burials in Collums Cemetery, located outside Bruce Mississippi. This free space page for the Collums Cemetery was created to document the life and times of our ancestors that are interred there.

This page is a work in progress, and will remain so until the Table of Interments (below) is completed. The Table of Interments is a sortable listing of persons interred at this cemetery, some or all of whom are linked to existing WikiTree profiles. If you know of a person interred at this cemetery that should be linked to an existing WikiTree profile, or needs to have a profile created for them, please contact Kris Shearer for assistance.

History

The Collums Cemetery began when Amanda Frances Brasher Collums and Greenberry Collums buried their two young sons, Alson G. Collums and Lawrence Dempsey Collums, in a side yard of their property in 1861 and 1862. Today, the cemetery is the resting place for almost five hundred family and friends. [1] In addition to Collums, other prominant surnames from Chickasaw and Calhoun Counties in this cemetery include Brasher, Easley, Lantrip, Overby, and many others.

Each year, the Collums Cemetery Memorial is held at 11:00 am on the first 5th Sunday month after the Easter month. If the Easter month has 5 Sundays it will not be in that month but the next month that has five Sundays. [2]

You removed Mississippi Cemeteries project, which is great...but still United States Cemeteries project needs to go, too. That's also being replaced by a team. Thank you!!
