Biography

Conchobar, in alliance with the descendants of Ruaidri, were attacked and chased by the Ui Briuin (Ai) and the Conmaicne northward through the Curlieu Hills and came to Drumrat. When the sons of Ruaidri saw that fortune was against them and that the soldiers were breaking up in panic, they abandoned their position and got away without losing a man.

The Ui Briuin Ai Síol Muireadaigh put a fleet on Loch Key, deposed his father Cormac Mac Diarmata, king of Moylurg, plundered the whole of Moylurg and gave the lordship of the whole lake and territory to Donnchad son of Muirchertach Luathsuilech. [1]

The Annals of Loch Cé state: "Conchobhar, son of Cormac, son of Tomaltach, the most bountiful and valiant man of his time, in Christo quievit." [2]

They went after them northward through the Curlieu Hills and came to Drumrat. The descendants of Ruaidri sent the soldiers of the Justiciar, which they had with them, to encounter them; and Fedlim ordered his men not to shoot at them, but with bowed heads to have at them in a furious charge. The soldiers did not withstand this onset but broke and fell back on their own side, many of them, including Mac Mibric, being killed in the rout. When the sons of Ruaidri saw that fortune was against them and that the soldiers were breaking up in panic, they abandoned their position [and got away] without a man of them being killed. After this defeat they were dispersed, so that they had no more habitation among the Sil Murray, and all their folk were plundered. They made great raids on Conchobar son of Cormac [Mac Diarmata] in Tirrerill, and after that they put a fleet on Loch Key, deposed Cormac Mac Diarmata king of Moylurg, plundered the whole of Moylurg and gave the lordship of the whole lake and territory to Donnchad son of Muirchertach Luathsuilech [Mac Diarmata]."
