December 1862, Duff Cyrus Green as Quarter Master was the overseer and possible owner of some of the 63 slaves (numbered 51 - 113) loaned out as laborers to Captain Charles T. Lieurner of the Corps of Engineers. Duff C Green was paid $1204.00 for the work they performed.[1]

"This payroll acknowledges that Captain Charles T. Lieurner of the Corps of Engineers paid C. Green Duff, Quartermaster General, for work performed by certain slaves as laborers on the obstructions on the Dog River Channel, Alabama, during December 1862.
