This payroll acknowledges that Captain C. H. Dimmock[1], Engineer Corps, paid certain Greensville County, Virginia, slave owners for work performed by their slaves at the defenses of Yorktown, Virginia, during September 1862.

Slave owner William H. Hobbs provided a slave named Jesse.

Slave owner T. F. Jones provided slaves named Cato and Tom.

Slave owner W. J. Jones provided a slave named Squire.

Slave owner Martha R. Jones provided a slave named Claiborne.

Slave owner Thaddeus Jarrott provided a slave named Henry.

Slave owner L. Lipsey provided slaves named Jack and Shack.

Slave owner R. G. Montgomery provided slaves named Fed, Nat, and Napoleon.

Slave owner W. T. Maclin provided slaves named Dudley and Dinks.

Slave owner Matilda W. Maclin provided a slave named John.

Slave owner W. E. Miles provided a slave named Edmond.

Slave owner R. R. Moss provided slaves named Allen and George.

Slave owner H. O. Moss provided slaves named Willis, Cit, and Zack.

John H. Weaver acknowledged receipt of payment for William H. Hobbs, T. F. Jones, Martha R. Jones, L. Lipsey, R. G. Montgomery, W. T. Maclin, and Matilda W. Macllin. The other owners were not paid.

Payroll 1045

This payroll certifies that Captain H. T. Douglas paid certain Greensville County, Virginia, slave owners for work performed by their slaves at Yorktown, Virginia, during February 1862.

Slave owner David Prince provided a slave named Charles.

Slave owner J. H. Person provided a slave named Sam Brown.

Slave owner Joseph T. Powell provided a slave named Anderson.

Slave owner Jay Porch provided a slave named Mancer.

Slave owner Howel Pair provided a slave named Hall.

Slave owner Daniel Robinson provided slaves named Austin and Isaac.

Slave owner S. A. Robinson provided a slave named Henry.

Slave owner Benjamin Rook provided a slave named Jessee.

Slave owner F. E. Richardson provided slaves named Douglas and Minter.

Slave owner G. C. Stark provided slaves named George and Joe.

Slave owner W. W. Spratley provided a slave named Robert.

Slave owner John A. Smith provided slaves named Ben Roberts and Alex.

Slave owner E. P. Scott provided slaves named Anderson Easter and Algenon Easter.

William H. Walton acknowledged receipt of payment for all the slave owners. Mr. Walton's signature by mark was witnessed by Joseph Taylor.

Slave owner J. L. Throop [?] provided a slave named Isaac.

Slave owner George B. Wyche provided slaves named Tom and Bynum.

Slave owner Ira E. Wyche provided slaves named Daniel and George.

Slave owner W. Wyatt provided a slave named Tony.

This payroll certifies that Captain H. T. Douglas paid certain Greensville County, Virginia, slave owners for work performed by their slaves at Yorktown, Virginia, during February 1862.

Slave owner Dr. Green H. Butte provided slaves named Archer and Isaac.

Slave owner James F. Bailey provided slaves named Jerry and John.

Slave owner George W. Charlton provided a slave named Moses.

Slave owner James W. Cook provided slaves named Holland, Tom, Abraham, Goodyne, Ben, Edwin, Green, Jim, Edloe, and Wiley.

Slave owner John R. Chambliss, Jr., provided a slave named Ridick.

Slave owner John R. Chambliss, Sr., provided slaves named Davy and Howard.

Slave owner W. W. Cato provided a slave named Bill.

William H. Walton acknowledged receipt of payment for all the owners except George W. Charlton, who was not paid. Joseph Taylor witnessed Mr. Walton's acknowledgments.
