This payroll acknowledges that J. B. Stanard, Captain, Corps of Engineers, paid certain Prince Edward County, Virginia, slave owners for work performed by their slaves at the defenses of Petersburg, Virginia, from October to December 1863.^[1]

Slave owner John A. Scott provided a slave named Jack.

The administrator of the estate of slave owner J. W. Phillips provided a slave named James.

Slave owner S. B. Scott provided a slave named Robert.

Slave owner James M. Wootton provided a slave named Bob.

Slave owner Charles C. Wade provided a slave named Henry.

Slave owner Thomas J. Owen provided a slave named Moses.

Slave owner James L. Lockett provided a slave named Moses.

Slave owners Elam and Gray provided a slave named Madison.

Slave owner William C. Thomas provided a slave named Cread.

Slave owner Joseph T. Ligon provided a slave named Patrick.

Slave owner H. D. Dickerson provided a slave named Simon.

Slave owner T. E. Perkinson provided slaves named Claiborne and Bob.

Slave owner Samuel B. Bruce provided a slave named James.

Slave owner James D. Ligon provided slaves named Stephen and Patrick.

Slave owner S. W. Vaughan provided slaves named Wyatt and Jim.

Slave owner Lucy A. Booker provided a slave named Albert.

Slave owner S. H. Wootton provided a slave named Henry.

Slave owner William T. Wootton provided a slave named Silas.

James Mickle acknowledged receipt of payment for Lucy A. Booker. Zrs. [?] Y. Wootton acknowledged receipt of payment for both S. H. and William T. Wootton. S. W. Vaughan acknowledged receipt of payment for himself. Thomas W. Blanton acknowledged receipt of payment for all the other slave owners.
