It is apparent from the newspaper 'South Australian Register, Monday 29 November 1858, Page 2 - THE CONFIANCE' that this ship was held up in Plymouth for about week due to the inadequacy of passenger numbers, and that passenger numbers were eventually made up from the Cornish community. This means that the ship had come from elsewhere, very possibly with some passengers already on board, namely from London. The London departure point is supported by a Report of Survey for Repairs for the Confiance of May 1858. This report was singed-off on 1 June 1858. It is likely from this time to around 30 July 1858 that the ship is re-launched and got ready for the South Australian run. And while it seems difficult to ascertain what passenger boarded in London, it is hard to imagine the ship left London empty.
