Connacht or Connaught /ˈkɒnəkt/(Irish: Connacht or Cúige Chonnacht) is one of
the Provinces of Ireland situated in the west of the Ireland. In Ancient Ireland, it was one of the fifths ruled by a "king of over-kings"
(in Irish: rí ruirech).
The province of Connacht has the greatest number of native Irish speakers at between 5–10% (40,000–55,000) of the population. There are several important Irish-speaking areas in Counties Galway and Mayo.
