Surname Origins and Variants
Cook is an English occupational surname derived from the Old English word "coc," which included cooks, cooked-meat sellers, and keepers of eating-houses.[1]
The Cook surname has many variants. The most common variant, Cooke, is included as part of this project.

Hi! My name is Wendy Cook. I’ve been working on my Father’s Family Tree, Cook Family (Harry Reid Cook b 1931) for several years. I’m stuck (Brick wall) at John Cook b. 1799, either in Europe or USA.

I would like to join the Cook project -- I have traced back to Philip Cook born 16 Oct 1813 in Lincoln, North Carolina. Trying to see if his parents was John and Mary Whetstone. I have many land records for John and Philip Cook in Lincoln, North Carolina near Indian Creek.
Many Cooks are in Washington County, Kansas. Philip and Barbara moved there and are buried in Greenleaf Cemetery

do you have a source to prove her father wasn't Robert Cook, but instead Thomas Gleadhill? Her profile is open, so you can add sources to her profile. But you would need a good trustworthy source to show the change in father. Was she a lovechild?

Im working on my Cook Surname connection through Betsey Cook and the surname Race connection. Her profile Im researching is https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cook-27552
I would love to be able to join this project. My Cook/Cooke heritage is from the Northeast (MA/CT). Specifically, Henry Cook in Salem to Samuel Cook in Wallingford to Ephraim, then Elam to Elam, and then Ethelbert to Lauren to Milton (my grandfather) to my mother and then myself. I also know from a direct male relative who is also a descendant from Henry Cook in Salem that the y-dna for Henry would be Z-159. There are currently males in my family that are direct male descendants of Henry in Salem in 1638 and I am planning on having one of them take the FamilytreeDNA y-DNA test. I haven't seen on any other site anyone else who seems to have direct male descendants of Henry, but I could be wrong.
I would like to participate. My forebears called Cook and/or Cooke moved from Ireland to eastern Ontario in the early 1800s and on to Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
