The ship Coromandel made Numerous Voyages to the Australian Colonies and New Zealand and the Americas in the 19th Century

The Coromandel was 662 tons burthen (bm), sailing ship built at Quebec in 1834. She was owned by Ridgeway and her home port was Glasgow. She was the first ship to bring settlers to South Australia after it was proclaimed a colony in 1836 and one of the early ships bringing New Zealand Company settlers to Wellington, New Zealand in 1840.[1]

From London on Thursday, September 8, 1836 - arriving at Holdfast Bay, South Australia on Monday, January 16, 1837. (via Deal & Kangaroo Island) Captain William Chesser and 156 passengers.
In June 1838 she sailed from London to Sydney under Captain Neale.
Captained by Edward French, the ship sailed from St Catherines docks, London on 10 December 1839 with 240 immigrants arriving in New Zealand, via Sydney (June 24) and Melbourne (July 10), Australia, on 29 August 1840 with 44 passengers. On the voyage it stopped in Australia to disembark passengers and pick up 200 sheep, 40 bullocks, and 4 horses for New Zealand.
On 7 July 1843 it sailed under Captain Harewood from Gravesend to Bombay carrying troops.
In 1845 she was sailing on the run from Liverpool to New Orleans.

The ship was listed in Lloyd's register of 1855 as being owned by Brooke & Co under Captain Walker.[2]
