Crawford DNA Y-STR Group I2

Welcome to the DNA page for the Crawford Name Study. Here you will find information about profiles who have been identified as testing with a Y-DNA Haplogroup I2, and any related sub-groups.

The current oldest known ancestor in this line is David Crawford II, and it is supposed therefore that his father David Crawford I also belongs within the same Y-DNA Haplogroup, as would his grandfather John Crawford, although no current documents have been uncovered to prove that he existed.

This haplogroup of I2 is currently an interesting outlier group within the Crawford DNA studies, as it is not known to connect to any of the Crawford lines found in Scotland (See the above Crawford DNA page). While much study has been found online regarding a supposed connection to Kilbirnie (see John Crawford of Ayrshire, Scotland and Virginia, United States for more information) DNA evidence indicates that no such connection exists.

Note, there is one theory on the page listed above about being related to the Kilbirnie branch through a marriage prior to them buying Auchenames (via Patrick Crawford's first wife's cousin), but unless a descendant of that family is found to test, it remains conjecture.

If you have information about profiles who should be a part of this category, either

• due to direct Y-DNA testing or
• because they are documented as a Y-DNA Ancestor or Y-DNA Descendant of someone who has been confirmed to have this Y-DNA Haplogroup,

please add the text [[Category:Crawford_Y-STR_Group_I2]] to the top of their profile (before the Biography heading)

How to remove a profile from this grouping

Please do not remove this category from a profile unless you have a Y-DNA descendant with a Y-DNA test showing a different Haplogroup. If so, you may remove this category and replace it with the correct category from the Crawford DNA page showing the correct haplogroup. Please also post a comment on that page to let other contributors know, so they can investigate family members and correct the discrepancy.
