NHS Hospital

  • 1882 Established by the Chislehurst, Sidcup and Cray Valley Medical and Surgical Aid Society.
  • 1883 Founded.
  • 1884 Opened.
  • 1924 Substantially rebuilt.
  • 1930s: Called the Chislehurst, Orpington and Cray Valley Hospital or the Cray Valley Cottage Hospital.
  • 1938 Had 30 beds.
  • 1948 Joined the NHS, with 31 beds.
  • 1951 Maternity Unit opened with 10 beds.
  • 1954 Had 35 beds.
  • 1974 Closed as a general hospital. Retained as smallpox isolation unit until 1979.
