Introduction
- Geography
- Creagh is a Civil Parish in County Cork in the former Barony of West Carberry, East Division.
- The Gaelic name for Creagh is An Chraobhach.
- Beautiful Loughine is located in Creagh, a salt-water lake with a tidal inlet from the Atlantic.
- Creagh is located in the Skibbereen RC Parish in the Diocese of Cork and Ross for Roman Catholic Parish Records.
- History
- A 13th Century ruined fort Castle Cloghan which belonged to the O'Driscoll clan lies on an island in the middle of Loughine. The O'Driscolls were a seafaring clan and some of them worked as seadogs for the British,
- Finian O'Driscoll the Rover is the most famous seadog of the clan, and was active in the Battle of Castlehaven in 1601. He may have died in Castle Cloghan or was still claiming it as his residence when he passed away in 1629.
- The Great Famine of the late 1840s hit this area hard, and thousands of people died in and around the local market town of Skibbereen, about 5 kilometers northeast of Lough Hyne.
- Tithe Applotment Books, Griffith's Valutations, Cancellation Books (all tax collector's documents) still exist for this area, and are available online through the National Library of Ireland. Census records for 1901 and 1911 are also available, and Census records for 1926 may be made available soon. Also available are Loan Fund records through the Skibbereen Heritage Center.

The Townlands of Creagh Civil Parish
- The townlands in Creagh Parish (An Chraobhach) are those taken from Creagh Parish on Logainm.ie and validated against townlands on the 1851, 1871 and 1901 Lists of Towns and Townlands and Griffiths valuations data. A link is provided in the notes for the 1901 and 1911 census. Please note that these may not always work if the townland was not available on the census in question. The census site may also substitute a similar name so be prepared for unexpected results! Similar for Griffith's valuation links which may show multiple names. Where a townland has been transferred to a new parish the census links are on the new parish page.
- If the townland has a category it will be linked in the table below. If there is no link and you need the category please contact David to get the category created or put in a request for the category to be created. Alternatively, if you feel condifent to do so, see Townland Category Information Boxes below for how to create them yourself.
