The ship Cressy made Numerous Voyages to the Australian Colonies and New Zealand in the 19th Century
The 720 ton ship Cressy was built at Sunderland in northern England in 1843. Her maiden voyages seems to have been carrying Convicts and made voyages to South Australia in 1847 and New Zealand in 1850 carrying free immigrants.
In fact the Cressy is best known as one of the "First Four Ships" in 1850 to carry emigrants from England to the new colony of Canterbury in New Zealand. The passengers aboard these four ships were referred to as the "Canterbury Pilgrims" of Christchurch
