Bas-Rhin (Lower Rhine), is a department (governmental district) in the region of Grand Est in the country of France.

Bas-Rhin is located in the extreme northeast corner of France in the region known as Alsace along the Rhine River. It is across the Rhine from the Baden area of Germany,

Bas-Rhin was part of Germany between 1871 and 1918. It was also part of Germany before the Treaty of 1648, when Germany was part of the Holy Roman Empire.

The largest city is Strasbourg, where the local Stadt Archiv (City Archives) are located.
