Description of Hint - 571: FindAGrave - Link without Grave ID

Some WikiTree profiles have a link to FindAGrave. This error indicates that the Find A Grave memorial number is missing. In most cases it is import profiles from Ancestry.com. They don't give the ID or it might be skipped at GEDCOM import.

Content of info column: Line in profile, that referenced FindAGrave.

Possible Causes

  • Memorial number was not entered in recognizable way.
  • Member added the Find A Grave citation which has a generic FAG URL but no link to the memorial.

Action Steps

  • If using the Find A Grave citation provided at the bottom of the memorial page, ADD the Find A Grave template (see below) as a link to the memorial.
  • Find connection to other profiles or add missing profiles to connect.

Find memorial and add memorial URL link or text Memorial #1234 or template {{FindAGrave|1234}} to the biography.

Best is also to

  1. add the retrieved date of the information
  2. the name used at the FIndAgrave of the person as it can differ and people like Kings has different name forms....

{{FindAGrave|1234|2017 apr 2|Napoleon Bonaparte}}

Frequently this error is solved by removing the 'https://www.' that is at the beginning of the full FAG citation because it doesn't have a related memorial number associated with it in that URL.

This error is not the one that is caused when you have a FAG attached that is associated with a different person. When you are using a FAG citation for a different person, make sure to include the sameas=no in the last part of the FAG Template and that will 'correct' the suggestion. You don't have to use 'False Suggestion' then.

Or create a FindAGrave entry.

Its like its better to have one profile per person in WikiTree. it is also better to have one entry per person at FindAGrave....

That is correct action.

In the cases that are flagged for me, I am linking to a Findagrave cemetery website, but no memorial exists for the person. I'll mark them as false errors. Stratton-1049, Stratton-1040, Buckalow-3.
