Purpose

There are many diligent members of this family tree who have for some recently and for others over a longer period of time been accumulating information about their ancestors and descendants. This initiative in WikiTree is intended to complement and not replace these efforts and to provide a focus for coordination amongst those individuals and their successors so that precious time and resources are not wasted in building out our history in each person's chosen geanological platform.

Collobaration

It is known that these chroniclers have pursued their interests through:

  • Collecting and collating documents and things and producing independent listings and histories,
  • Using common geanological web based tools such as Ancestory.com and My Heritage. com amongst others.
  • Publishing local histories researched from original records.
  • Lately collating information within WikiTree.

It is also known that there are other forms of collaboration such as Facebook.

Members have also commenced DNA ancestor tracing through 23andMe, Ancestry.com and the like.

This page is an attempt to document all of these to unlock the opportunities each offers to enrich the efforts of others.

The principal values in achieving this objective are openness and sharing, The platforms themselves establish important controls for evidencing, attribution and privacy. So members can contribute to the effectiveness of their efforts through:

  • Using the privacy controls in their chosen platforms sensitively to respect other persons rights.
  • Using the collaboration strategies in their chosen platforms to allow access to shareable information to family members to the best extent possible.
  • Alerting members through updates and comments of significant additional contributions on the various platforms or from research.

Ways to update the WikiTree

  • Become a member, sign the pledge and be included on the trusted list so that you can update profiles as you want - its free and does not lead to unwanted spam.
  • Making other platforms shareable so that a WikiTree member can use the information to update WikiTree.
  • Emailing information to a WikiTree member so that that member can update the WikiTree.
  • Sharing documents with a WikiTree member who can then digitise that information and update the WikiTree.

Members

This is a listing of members and others who are currently collaborating on this project. Email addresses are included where members are happy to be contacted directly. This includes a group of relatives up to third cousins across the tree who have been connected through this common interest.
