How to Join
Please contact the project leader Lorna Henderson or post a comment at the foot of the page. If you have any questions, just ask. Thanks!
Goals
This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.
Links
- FamilyTreeDNA Dawe Surname DNA project (covers both Daw and Dawe variants.
- As a surname project we particularly want direct male line representatives to test yDNA, at least yDNA37 but preferably yDNA67, from at least two distantly related lines of the same family to prove the DNA signature for the line.
- yDNA results are published for comparison (if your profile/project settings agree to so do) displaying the Most Distant Paternal Ancestor and a kit number, no other identifying information is available there.
- Should you wish to include your DNA tested information here on WikITree, follow these instructions
- Although primarily yDNA focussed, anyone with DAWE or DAW ancestry who has undertaken the FamilyFinder test is also welcome to join the project. Only yDNA results are published.
- There is a private to members "Activity Feed" associated with this FTDNA project.
- DNASurnames Dawe pages
- This site is an adjunct to the above FTDNA Dawe Surname DNA project, concentrating primarily on the DNA of the Devon and Cornwall Dawe families
- Lorna's personal Dawe pages

As you have you tested at LivingDNA, your test is not easily compared with others. I strongly advise that you upload your LivingDNA file to GEDmatch and any of the other testing sites that permit transfers from LivingDNA, then enter your GEDmatch ID on your profile to show other relatives that you can be compared at GEDmatch.
There is a technique to find all autosomal testers on WikiTree for any selected surname where they have indicated they have taken an autosomalDNA test (substitute your SURNAME of choice – caps not necessary):

LivingDNA will have given you an approximate yDNA haplogroup but that will be for your direct paternal line, which is Down, rather than Dawe. So if you are interested in the deeper origins of your Dawe line I suggest you find a living direct male line descendant and get them to test yDNA at FamilyTreeDNA, at least 37 markers, followed by, if budget permits, the upgrade to BigY for a definitive placement on the tree of Dawe-kind which will be upgrated over time as matches refine the placement.
The FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) project link above is primarily for direct male lines, and they are the only publicly published results however should you ever test FamilyFinder FTDNA (does not however accept transfers in from LivingDNA) you would be welcome to join the project for the (admittedly limited) benefit for non YDNA testers.
Hope this helps Lorna https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Dawe_Dna_Project
