Martha White to Lucy White Deed of Gift South Carolina Edgefield District Know all men by these presents that I Martha White for and inconsideration of the Natural love and affection which I do have and bear unto my dutiful and beloved Daughter Lucy White as also inconsideration of ten dollars to me in hand by the said Lucy, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have given, granted, bargained and confirmed and by these presents do give grant, bargain and confirm unto the said Lucy White one negro man named Jerry, all my cattle (about nine in number) all my hoggs (between twenty and thirty) all my geese, household and kitchen furniture consisting of bed and [the] furniture, chairs, tables, chest, cupboards, loom and its gears of every kind, spinning wheels, crockryware, ovens, pots and kettles.

And also my distributive part and portion of my Step Mother Abba Brooks state of Virginia which will accrue to me after her death, supposed to be of the worth of at least one valuable negro {next page} in what place or places so ever the same shall be found as well in my own possession and custody as in the custody or possession of any other person or persons whatsoever as they now are, or which at any time here after during my life may be improved or increased to have and to hold all and singular the said negro, cattle and furniture and all the other premises aforesaid unto the said Lucy White her Executors and administrators and assigns forever Provided always and never the less upon the condition that the said Lucy her executors administrator and assigns do and shall permit and suffer her the said Martha White to hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said negro slave, stock of every kind and furniture and all and singular the premises above granted for and during so long as I the said Martha White shall happen to live and I the said Martha for myself executors and administrators do covenant grant and agree to and with the said Lucy her executors and administrators by and under the conditions aforesaid and not otherwise shall and may peacibly and quietly have, hold and enjoy all and singular the negro slave, Horses cattle and furniture aforsaid without any molestation hinderance or interuption by any person or persons Whatsoever claiming under me or by me act means or pro[cne]ment. South Carolina Edgefield District Personally and before me Eldred Simkins who saith on his oath that he was present and saw Martha White Sign seal and acknowledge the within instrument to be her act and deed and that himself together with Fred White subscribe their names as witnessess to the deed execution thereof. Sworn to before me this 23 day Augt 1813.
