This page was created as a place to work out date anomalies for the descendants of Ifor Bach & Gwrgan ab Ithel who settled in Radur. In Wikitree (as of 13 October 2023), Ifor's granddaughter Mawd married Gwrgan's great-grandson Hywel. Their son, Cynwrig ap Hywel (abt.1200-abt.1280) was the Lord of Llantrithyd and Radyr.
The following was moved from the profile of Ieuan ap Llywelyn (1279-aft.1341) on 13 October 2023.
Timeline based primarily on information from A History of Radyr and Morganstown,[1] coupled with WikiTree profiles as of 11 October 2023, reveals some date issues.
- ...: Griffith, son of Ifor Bach, original lease for mill ("Melin Griffith"), in Whitchurch, on the border of Radyr[1]
- 1277: Llewellyn ap Cynwrig is living[2]
- Llywelyn ap Cynwrig (abt.1230-abt.1317) <- Bartrum's charts have the Ieuan represented by Ap_Llywelyn-24 (as of 13 October 2023) as the son of Llywelyn living in 1277, but that puts him out of place in this timeline (Ieuan ap Llywelyn ap Cynwrig ap Hywel). With birth in 1230 & death c1317, it is doubtful he is the "lord of the court" named in 1316 (he would have been 87).[3]
- 1295: mill destroyed[1][4]
- 1300: birth of Ieuan ap Llywelyn who married Jonet ferch Thomas (ap Llywelyn-24 - 1300 birth year given in his father's profile [unsourced text as of 12 October 2023]).
- 1307: Cynwrig ap Hywel "held the lease of a large part of the... manor of Whitchurch"[1]
- Cynwrig ap Hywel (abt.1200-abt.1280) - cannot be the Cynwrig ap Hywel who held a lease in 1307.[5][4][6]
- Cynwrig ap Hywel's mother - Mawd ferch Gruffudd (1170-1211) - daughter of Gruffudd ab Ifor Bach
- 1316: "Of course it goes with out saying that there were Welsh traitors who collaborated with the Anglo–Norman oppressors and it is perhaps pertinent that we know their names too, most chiefly being Cynfrig ap Hywel and his son Llywelyn ap Cynfrig but there were others too."[7] not them? -
- 1316: Llewellyn ap Cynwrig held the demesne of the manor / revolt led by Llewellyn Bren (mill destroyed)[1][4] same as son of Cynfrig above?
- -- need a date in the timeline for Ieuan ap Llywelyn (1279-aft.1341)... could b1326 Ieuan Gethin m Elsbeth Thomas be have been the Ieuan who was grandfather of Morgan?
- 1326: birth of Ieuan Gethin ap Ieuan - married Elsbeth Tomas, gr-granddaughter of Llywelyn ap Cynwrig (abt 1230 - abt 1317)
- 1381: Llywelyn living in 1381[8]
- 1461: Morgan ap Llewellyn ap Ieuan held the demesne lands of Radyr[1]
- Morgan ap Llywelyn (1378-abt.1436), m before 1426 Efa ferch Ieuan (born c1400), daughter of Ieuan Gethin & Elsbeth
- 1469: marriage of Thomas Mathew and "Katherine, daughter and co-heiress of Cynwrig's great-great-grandson, Morgan ap Llewellyn ap Ieuan."[1]
