Film Facts
- Plot: A living puppet, with the help of a cricket as his conscience, must prove himself worthy to become a real boy.
- Based on the 1883 Italian children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, by Carlo Collodi.
- Pinocchio was Walt Disney second full-length animated feature film. It premiered in New York City on 7 Feb 1940, and was placed into general release on 23 Feb 1940.
- Pinocchio featured two of the greatest voice actors of all time, Clarence Nash as Figaro the Cat and Mel Blanc as Gideon (an anthropomorphic cat). By the time the film was completed, however, the two men's parts had been whittled down to just a single sound each - a sneeze for Nash and a hiccup for a Blanc.
- The film also included the voice of Thurl Ravenscroft, later known as the voice of Kellogg's Tony the Tiger.
- Pinocchio won Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for When You Wish Upon a Star. In 2004, the American Film Institute's List ranked the song #7 on its Top Movie Songs of All Time, the highest-ranking song on the list from a Disney animated film.
- In the 2008 American Film Institute's “Top Ten Animated Feature Films of All Time” list, Pinocchio was ranked only behind Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
