Film Facts

Plot: The beautiful and kindhearted princess Snow White charms every creature in the kingdom except one - her jealous stepmother, the Queen. When the Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White the fairest one of all, she must flee into the forest, where she befriends the lovable seven dwarfs - Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, and Dopey. But when the Queen tricks Snow White with a poisoned apple and falling into a deep sleep, only the magic of true love's kiss can awaken her.

- Based on an 1812 German fairytale, Schneewittchen, written by the Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm.

- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full-length animated feature film in cinema history. Development on the project began in early 1934, at Disney's Burbank, California studios. The film premiered at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, California on 21 Dec 1937, and was placed into general release on 4 Feb 1938.

- When Snow White was released, it didn’t contain any credits for the actors who provided the voices, because Walt Disney didn’t want to ruin the illusion of the animated character.

- Snow White was nominated for Best Musical Score at the Academy Awards of 1938; the following year, Walt Disney was awarded an honorary Oscar for the film which was presented by child actress Shirly Temple in the unique form of one normal-sized Oscar statue plus seven miniature Oscar statuettes.

- The film was chosen by the American Film Institute as the number one animated film of all time.

- Snow White became the first American film to have a soundtrack album, released in conjunction with the feature film.

- Adjusted for inflation, and incorporating subsequent releases, the film still registers as one of the top-10 American film moneymakers of all time.
