Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I've been working on Jodie's family tree. Here is a link to her father so if you would like to request to join the trusted list and connect Jodie's profile please do so! I am happy to continue working on the other members of her family :)

Please, please, please can we work on Elisabeth Sladen's bio for next week's EPOW? Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: Extraordinary Elizabeths

Thanks, Melanie!!

Most definitely!

That would be a fantastic idea. I hope someone doesn't just copy/paste her bio from Wikipedia or something.

Edit: Azure beat me to it!

Just saw that Jackie Lane, who played Dodo in Doctor Who, passed away on 23 June.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Lane_(actress)

I thought she might already have a profile, but after a pretty extensive search, I don't think there is one.

posted by Scott Fulkerson
As mentioned on g2g, she does now. If anyone can help flesh out the bio, and the sources -- please jump in.
posted by Melanie Paul
As I posted to g2g, Jackie should show as Connected after the next update. I still need to build up the linking profiles, but now I'm not hunting for the Connection, that shouldn't be too difficult. Well, that'll depend on rabbits. :p

I cannot help it, I just have to "say" it somewhere! In addition to my having been able to claim "the Doctor" as being my direct great-great-grandfather, I have now discovered I have a David Tennant - with Scottish connections - on a collateral line. (Admittedly, he was born about 1837-ish, but that's not the point!)
posted by Melanie Paul
That's okay. I have a Jean Picard somewhere in the Quebec lines.

Yay for non-famous, famous-name name-alikes! Genealogy is such fun!  :)

I may have also looked for Peter Parker and Steve Rogers on this site. =)

Deborah Patricia Watling is now also connected. Had to go back a ways to the Jarrards of Essex to hook her on!

Wonderful!

Thank you for finding her profile. I have added the info!

Per the question I asked (on the Adversaries page) about people maybe wanting stickers for the profiles - I've gone and created 7 images (so far), for use in 8 occupation stickers.

Images (and code for using them) are on this page.

If anyone wants on the Trusted List, just let me know, but understand I may not get to it right away.

Melanie, those are wonderful! Thank you!

I've gone through some of my pre-move souvenirs and found an old magazine page with Hartnell's photo as the Doctor. I've scanned it, cropped it, "manipulated" it (because it's an edge of the page thing, with part of his head missing). I'm not sure where copyright lies with something bought and paid for that was originally published in the 1980s.

I think it would likely fall under Fair Use, especially with the manipulating to cover up the missing portion of his head, but understand if others think otherwise.

There's a photo in the Glasgow Herald of an older Hartnell, published with his obit in that publication. If that might be free to use, I could crop it (but see parenthetical note below).

Else, the only shots available are all screenshots (mostly, it seems, on pinterest), or very fuzzy newspaper images (which may still fall under copyright of the publication).

Thoughts?

I also have serious doubts regards his daughter Heather. Her birth was registered in 1930, so there is a strong possibility she is still living. I adopted the profile, so I can change the privacy level if others agree. (Her husband is deceased, so his profile is ok.)
posted by Melanie Paul
I've three possibles for Hartnell, none were public domain. One was cropped from a scan of a page in a fan mag from the 1980s. (With the manipulation I did, we could probably claim Fair Use.) One was a screencap, cropped and manipulated, from an episode in the 1960s. (I think we could claim Fair Use on that one.) The one in colour is a more modern one, so even being a screencap, and manipulated, it might be iffy even under Fair Use.

Screencap from 1960sepisode, cropped and manipulated

Scanned, cropped, and manipulated from my souvenir collection fan mag.

Cropped and manipulated from a screencap from something with three Doctors (I'd need to look up my files).

I propose we have two new pages one for Adversaries and one for Production or Other. What say you all?  ;) az
posted by Azure Robinson
So leave the current page for Doctors and Companions, another for Adversaries, another for non-Acting roles? Where would extras go - on the Adversaries page?
posted by Scott Fulkerson
Hmmm, maybe Production and Extras on the same one. Doctors and Companions on this main page and the Adversaries on their own since there are so many!  :)
posted by Azure Robinson
Yeah. Have three pages.

1. The Doctor and Companions 2. Villains 3. Production staff.

For Production staff, you can always check the Tardis Wikia.

posted by Chris Ferraiolo
What about guest actors playing non-adversaries? Would they be on the Production page? Like this guy:https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Ivor_Roberts

So - this one for the Doctor and companions, another for adversaries, and a third for writers, producers, makeup and wardrobe people, and all the behind the scenes folk.

Sounds good to me.

Thumbs up here. No concerns with that approach.

Added John Hurt and his profile needs to be merged. Looks like it was set as a rejected match, but it's the same person.

Can we add folk who were never actually seen? As in the guys who did Cybermen voices: Peter Hawkins and Roy Skelton?

Others from the series and who are deceased include -- Deborah Watling who was the Doctor's companion Victoria Waterfield, Michael Goldie who was Elton Laleham, Kenneth Watson who was Bill Duggan, Eric Flynn who was Leo Ryan, and Michael Turner who was Jarvis Bennett.

(And I just accidentally closed the tab, so lost my list.)

(And it seems I misposted this as a memory, instead of a comment. Apologies for the double-up on notifications.)

Also David Brierly who voiced K-9 (as did the above mentioned Roy Skelton (uncredited). (The third mentioned voice actor for K-9 is still living.)

Actors who played the Borusa were :

Angus MacKay (15 July 1926 – 8 June 2013), John Arnatt (9 May 1917 – 21 December 1999), Leonard Sachs (26 September 1909 – 15 June 1990), and Philip Latham (17 January 1929 – 20 June 2020).

I put the Dalek actors I'd found into the table as well as some companions. I would think anyone who was a part of the Doctor Who franchise should be good, but I'll let Azure respond as this is her FS project. I'm thinking that could also mean key production staff (producers, directors, etc.), or do you just want those directly involved with acting, handling props (like manipulating Daleks on screen), etc.?

Here's another one - the voice of Rassilon: Richard Mathews (1914-1992) https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0558700/

I found a profile for Gerald R. Flood that "looks" like the one for the actor that voiced the Doctor's companion, Kamelion. I'm trying to confirm it with the Profile Manager, as it's not open and I can't see all the details.

Looks like he's the right one! The PM would like to approve those who want to work on it, so you'll have to ask to be added to the Trusted List before you can update, but we can add him to the table.
posted by Scott Fulkerson
I added an image (with a LOOOOONG explanation) to William Nicholas Stone Courtney (aka Brigadier General Lethbridge Stewart) in response to the note that the current image is from IMDB (without any visible permission note).

I spent considerable time cropping and manipulating the image I uploaded, including adding background that does not exist in the original. I do not believe we should have any problem in using the image as created by me.

posted by Melanie Paul
Thanks, Melanie! I made that note as I knew IMDB (being an Amazon company) had pretty strict rules about usage of any images from their site. Thank you not only for following up on it, but also for putting another more suitable image out there. :)
posted by Scott Fulkerson
I also left a note on the other image, saying there were questions regarding allowability due to copyright concerns, and suggesting permission be sought from IMDB (or to post a note showing permission was given).

I don't know that we can do more than that.

I am, as always, more than happy to do what I can to digitally manipulate images if they are believed to be ok to use, but not proven as such.

posted by Melanie Paul
I have done the same for Anthony Ainley regards the photograph from Find a grave.
posted by Melanie Paul
I responded on the photo for Anthony Ainley - after a long search, it "appears" we're OK, but I'm not a copyright lawyer, so I can't be 100% certain.

I think it's probably better to be safe, than face a law suit.

Peter Davison is going to be hard to connect. His ancestors came from Guyana in South America. I have a copy of his biography that I have not yet finished reading.

On the other hand Peter has been married three times, so his english wives may be easier to trace. They are as follows - First marriage - to Diane Russell in 1973 - divorced 1975 - 2nd marriage - to Sandra Dickinson in 1978 - divorced 1994 - 3rd marriage - to Elizabeth Morton in 2003 - but their sons were born in 1999 and 2001

And then of course there is Peter Davisons eldest daughter Georgia Moffett who married the other Dr Who, David Tennant. If someone can trace Davids ancestors, then those 2 trees can be connected!! Davids LNAB was something like McDonald I think.... I saw a documentary on Youtube about him. Or was that a genealogy show like WDYTYA? Can't remember... Anyway Numbers 5 and 10 were my most favourite doctors - which is why I am rambling on about them... So for these 2 doctors I would love to help.

It was the original British version of WDYTYA. The Patrick Stewart one was awesome.
