Biography

Donnchadh, was the progenitor of the Mac Donnchad (MacDonagh) sept. The family later became Kings or Lords of Tirerril in Co. Sligo; the first to be known as such was Tomaltach Mac Donnchadh, Donnchadh MacDermot's grandson, alive in 1315. [1]

The death of Donnchad is mentioned in this terse comment in The Annals of Connacht:

  • "Donnchad son of Tomaltach Mac Diarmata died." [2]

and The Annals of Loch Ce:

  • Donnchad son of Tomaltaigh son of Diarmada mortuus est. [3]
