Biography

Birth

Dudley Palmer was baptised on the 9th of December 1617 at St Mary Aldermanbury Church in London, England[1]. He was the son of Sir Anthony Palmer, Knight of the Bath, and Margaret Palmer (nee Digges), daughter of Thomas Digges and sister of Sir Dudley Digges[2].

Dudley's mother died in 1619[3], possibly due to complications with the birth of his younger brother, Anthony.

Dudley's father's will was written on the 28th of August 1630 and proved on the 24th of September 1630[4] when Dudley was about 12 or 13 years old. In it, his father willed that "for and towards his maintenance at the universities or elsewhere" Dudley should be paid the sum of £50 annually until he attained the age of 21[4]. Dudley and his brother were committed to the care of their uncle, Sir Dudley Digges, and one John Pimme, esq.
