- 6th June 1770 Eastern Australia charted by Captain James Cook. Names Cape Upstart, Cape Cleveland, Cleveland Bay, Cape Bowling Green and Magnetical Island.
- 1788 The First Fleet arrives at Botany Bay, brings Sugar Cane.
- 28 April 1789 Mutiny on board H.M.S Bounty, in the South Pacific Ocean.
- 1791 H.M.S. Pandora carrying Bounty Mutineers, hits the Great Barrier Reef.
- 1802 Matthew Flinders on the HMS Investigator, with Bungaree and midshipman John Franklin began his eleven-month circumnavigation of the continent, including the mapping of the Queensland coast, on the 22nd of July 1802.
- 1819 Lt Phillip Parker King, Allan Cunningham on the Mermaid explore Cleveland Bay.
- 1823 John Oxley leads an expedition to find a new penal settlement. Finds the Brisbane River.
- 1824 Settlement established there on the Brisbane River.
- 1824 Lancelot Threlkeld begins Missionary work with Australia's Indigenous population, translating their language, etc.
- 1826 Australian Colonial Goldfields Reporter John Augustus Hux born England.
- 1837 Victorian era begins with the birth of Queen Victoria.
- 1837 Port of Maryborough established.
- 1839 John Clements Wickham, John Lort Stokes, etc in H.M.S. Beagle sail past Cleveland Bay.
- 1839 Russell Island surveyed and named after Lord John Russell
- 1840: The Queenslander style home developed to cope with heat and lifestyle of Queensland Queenslanders
- 9 June 1841 Beagle stops at Cleveland Bay under command of Stokes. Explored Halifax Bay to the north.
- 1842 Robert Dixon surveys the area for the new Moreton Bay settlement.
- 1843 Francis Price Blackwood sails up the Wickham River.
- 1844 Ludwig Leichhardt's expedition.
- Feb 1846 Letters Patent granted to authorize a territorial penal Colony of North Australia comprising all of the Northern Territory and Queensland, north of the 26th parallel.
- Jan 1847 Proclaimed a Colony with Port Curtis, now Gladstone, as the Capital.
- Dec 1847 New British Government revoked the Letters Patent for the new Colony.
- 1848 Edmund Kennedy's Expedition where he is speared by Natives.
- 1849 Safety Pin invented.
- 1849 Johann Menge discovered Opals near Angaston, S.A.. Opal's were later found at Coober Pedy, N.S.W. and Queensland. 50& of the World Production of Opal comes from South Australia.
- 1850's Expeditions by Christopher Allingham, William Kilman, W.H. Gaden visited the area.
- 1851 Singer Sewing Machine first produced by Isaac Singer.
- 1853 Modern Kerosene Lamp invented by Ignacy Łukasiewicz
- 1853 Gladstone surveyed and named after William Ewart Gladstone
- 1854 Louis Hope begins buying land at Moreton Bay. Produced first commercial sugar in 1864.
- 1856 Two brothers, Augustus.C. and Francis.T. Gregory followed Leichhardt's trail through Western Queensland.
- 1857 First Lighthouse built at Cape Moreton.
- 27th October 1857. Party of white colonists attacked at Hornet Bank Station Homestead near Eurombah, Queensland.
- July 1858 First North Queensland Gold Rush to Canoona, near the now Rockhampton, when 15,000 people flocked to the area and lasted months, with the result that the Government had to rescue the stranded prospectors.
- 6th June 1859 SEPARATION OF QUEENSLAND. Queensland becomes a self-governing Crown colony. The only Colony that commenced with it's own Parliament. George Bowen was the first Governor, Robert Herbert was the first Premier, Ratcliffe Pring was the first Attorney General, Augustus Gregory was Surveyor General.
- 1859 Christopher Allingham and two cousins set out to overland 1500 Sheep to the Burdekin Valley.
- 1859 George Elphinstone Dalrymple leads an expedition with Philip Frederic Sellheim and Ernest Henry, to explore the Burdekin River and Kennedy district.
- 1859 Henry Daniel Sinclair with James Gordon, Poole and Thomas, on board the Santa Barbara, discovers Port Denison, the port of what is later, called Bowen.
- 1860 Ipswich and Rockhampton established as towns.
- 1860 Pioneer River discovered by John Munro Mackay. Mackay, Queensland named after him.
- 1860 "Spitfire" with J.W. Smith, G.E. Dalrymple, Robert Phippen Stone, Eugene Fitzallan, Mr Bousfield and seven crew discover Burdekin River. Ascertained the Wickham and Burdekin were one and the same.
- 17th October 1861. A party of white settlers massacred near Springsure, by Indigenous people. Known as the Cullin-la-ringo Massacre.

- 1861 Plan of Bowen laid out by party of surveyors including Clarendon Stuart.
- 1861 First Pioneers of the Queensland Sugar Industry settled in the Colony.

- 1861-3 Charles Seville Rowe, with Andrew Ball, Spencer Frederick Walker and Ross explore Cleveland Bay.
- 1861 John McDouall Stuart's final expedition.
- 1862 First viable Sugar Cane Plantation established near Brisbane by Captain Louis Hope and John Buhot. Hope builds first Mill two years later.
- 1862 Thomas Henry FitzGerald moves to the Colony with his young family.
- 1862 Jarvisfield Station claimed during the "Great Land Grab" by Edward Spencer Antill.
- about 1862 Port of Wickham established on the Burdekin River.?? shallow and subject to flooding.
- 1864 Dalrymplegazetted as a town on the Burdekin River near Charters Towers, Northern Australia's first inland town. Flooded in 1870 and abandoned.
- 1864 Frank and Alex Jardine take a herd of cattle to Cape York.
- 1864 Plan of Wickham laid out by Clarendon Stuart.
- 1864 Wickham washed away during flooding of the Burdekin River.
- 1864 Brisbane has major flooding, and fires which burned much of Queen Street.

- 1865 Wickham washed away again during flood that year.
- 1865 Clarendon Stuart appointed district surveyor, surveyed much of the goldfields and Townsville.
- 1865 Townsville gazetted as a port....named after Robert Towns
- 1865 Steam Locomotives come to Queensland.
- 1866 Perkins Brewery began in Toowoomba. Later taken over by Castlemaine Brewery. Castlemaine-Perkins Manager was John Devoy
- 1866 First patented pedal bicycle credited to Pierre Lallement. Before that, they were driven by foot power.
- 1866 Townsville gazetted as a town.
- 1867 Ernest Henry discovers Copper near Cloncurry.
- 1867 Alexander Graham Bell invents the Telephone
- 1867 Thomas Aitken and family arrive in the area.
- 1867 James Nash discovers Gold at Gympie, which saves the almost bankrupt colony.
- 1868 Wickham washed away again during a flood.
- 1860's Richard Daintree's gold discoveries at Ravenswood, Gilbert River, Cape River and the Etheridge, brought people which built the colony and kept it going through the pastoral collapse of the 1860's. He also found coal at Bowen.

- May 1871 James Corbett murdered at Cave Creek, near the Etheridge.
- 1872 Gold discovered at Charters Towers William Charters was warden. City named after him.
- 26 February 1872 Maria, Brig wrecked on Bramble Reef, east of Cardwell. Gold Hunters traveling to Papua New Guinea. 36 people died. Some murdered.
- 1874 Cape Bowling Green lighthouse built.
- 1875 S.S. Gothenburg hits the Great Barrier Reef and sinks near Bowen. 12 crew and 10 passengers survived.
- 1877 Millchester and Upper Camp, later named "Charters Towers", with a population of 7000, incorporated as a town. Later the population grew to 25,000 with a staggering, 90 public houses or Hotels to quench their thirst. Water supply was a problem resulting in the building of a Weir on the Burdekin & completed in 1902.
- 1877 John Atherton explored his way up the coast until settling down as founder of Mareeba in 1877.
- 1878 Castlemaine Brewery begins brewing beer in Brisbane, owned by brothers, Nicholas and Edward Fitzgerald.
- July 1878 James Arthurs mudered at Ravenswood.
- 1880 Herberton established by John Newell
- 1881 Townsville Bulletin established by John Keily Mehan , Dodd Clarke and Edward Rhode.
- 1882 Mount Morgan Mine development began, by a syndicate including William Knox D'Arcy , Thomas Skarrett Hall , Walter Russell Hall and Frederick Augustus Morgan. Discovered by William MacKinlay.
- 1881-2 Town of Ayr surveyed by Ellis Lymburner.
- 1882 Town of Brandon surveyed. Henry Brandon built Pioneer Mill at Brandon the following year.
- 26/27th August 1883 Krakatoa , the uninhabited Caldera, erupted explosively and violently, destroying 2/3rds of the island, eventually causing a Tsunami. The explosion was so loud, it could be heard in Perth, Western Australia and Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The sound wave travelled around the World three times, and the Tsunami killed an estimated 36,000 people on the surrounding Indonesian Islands
- 1884 Copper discovered at Kuridala, which is now a Queensland Heritage Register listed ghost town near Cloncurry.
- 1886 Karl Benz patented the first automobile]
- 1888 Queensland Tennis Open founded, after Tennis first introduced in 1870's.
- 1888 Bundaberg Distilling Company begins operations.
- 1889 Clancy of the Overflow first published. Written by Banjo Paterson.
- 1890 R.M.S. Quetta hits a rock in the Adophus Channel and sinks.
- 1890 The Man from Snowy River first published. Written by Banjo Patterson
- 1893 The first Queensland Golf Club was built at Townsville, however the first golf played, was earlier, and involved Francis Ivory and his brother Alexander.
- 1894 May Wirth Martin Greatest female horseback acrobat, was born in Bundaberg.
- 1894 Seven Little Australians written by Ethel Turner
- 1895 Walzing Matilda written in 1895, by Banjo Paterson, and published as sheet music in 1903.
- 1899 Cyclone Mahina Cat 5, named by Clement Wragge, hits the Torres Strait killing over 300 people.
- 1900 John Moffat tin mining at Irvinebank.
- 27th April 1900 First case of Bubonic Plague identified in Brisbane. For the first year, the dead were buried on Gibson Island, south bank of the Brisbane River, now a peninsular between Bulimba Creek, near the Power Station, close to the Colmslie Plague Hospital, Morningside.
- 1900 Black Plague travels along the Queensland Coast.
- 1st January 1901 Queensland became one of the six founding states of Australia.
- 1901 Edwardian era begins
- 1907 Jeannie Taylor Gunn publishes We of the Never Never
- 1911 S.S. Yongala sinks during a Cyclone.
- 1911 Unnamed Cyclone hits Port Douglas.
- 1915 Ayr Electric Undertaking founded. Ayr was the 6th Queensland town to have Electricity, before Townsville. Original Founder, David Edwards
- 1920 QANTAS founded at Winton, Queensland.
- 1921 Mt Mulligan mine disaster.
- 1921 Burdekin Shire Council Chambers foundation stone laid by Matthew Nathan, for new building to replace previous building destroyed by fire.
- 1922 Home Hill Powerhouse built, now heritage listed.
- 1924 Opal: Gem of the Never Never published by T.C. Wollaston.
- 1928 Reverend John Flynn founded the Australian Inland Mission and The Royal FLying Doctor Service which began as the A.I.M. Aerial Medical Service at Cloncurry.
- 1929 Jose Paronella purchased land at Mena Creek, to build his vision, a Catalan style castle, which he called Paronella Park
- 1929 Isabel Gray, the Eulo Queen dies at Toowoomba.
- 1932 Emanuel Hornibrook engineer, begins construction of the Hornibrook Bridge, Brisbane.
- 1932 Jean Morris murdered in Ayr.
- 1934 Norman Dahl makes his first broadcast on 4AY. Made possible originally, by inventions of Henry Sutton.
- 1942 Aeroplane crashes into bed of Burdekin RiverAeroplane Crash..Crash QG..Herbert R. Kohrs
- '1944 Warwick Meale murdered in Townsville, case unsolved.
- 1959 Cyclone Connie hits the Burdekin.
- 1961 Parkes Observatory brainchild of Taffy Bowen, was completed.
