Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Although we share a phonetic variant of the Ulster-Irish name, Donnchaidh, as the second link, above, will illustrate, we are not all related. Each of the Dunaway groupings on the FTDNA Dunaway Project page is distinct, genetically unrelated to all of the other groupings. Yet all Dunaways are part of the larger O'Donoghue Society. The southern dialects', Donnchadha to English gives variations on Donoghue. The Ulster-Irish dialect's, Donnchaidh to English gives variations on Donahay.

How do I know which Dunaway family in the project might be connected to my Dunaway line? I am looking for the parents of Clement Dunaway born about 1813 in Rutherford, North Carolina. I can find no other Dunaway in this area in this time period. He was in Randolph, Alabama by 1850. His occupation was miller. He married Susannah Condry in 1831 in Rutherford, North Carolina. I have my DNA at familytree DNA, but I cannot seem to get much response about how to proceed with this project.
