This research project is part of the McCool Name Study. It will attempt to track every male McCool/McCoole adult who lived in the US (or colonies) prior to 1800 and had one or more sons. We focus on the males to determine where we need additional Y-DNA testing.

Descendants of John McCoole Sr

Gen 1 - John McCoole Jr (abt.1690 Ire-1761 DE) - second son of John McCoole Sr (abt.1645-1719). Left will naming younger siblings, but not his children. Thought to be married twice with about eight children (minimal documentation). Two competing YDNA-non-matching lines of descent.

Gen 1 - James Adams McCool Sr (1709-1751) - son of John McCoole Sr (abt.1645-1719) and his second wife, Olivia. Named in the will of his older half-brother, John. In turn, he named his wife in his will, but not his children. Thought to have about five children.

Gen 1 - Walter McCool (abt.1712-abt.1796) - son of John McCoole Sr (abt.1645-1719) and his second wife, Olivia. Named in the will of his older half-brother, John. Differently, Walter named his wife, two sons and three daughters in his will.
