History/Timeline
- Elliott County was formed in 1869 from parts of Morgan, Lawrence, and Carter counties, and is named for John Lyle Elliott, U.S. Congressman, Confederate Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
Government Offices
- The first courthouse was a two story frame structure built in 1869.
- The second courthouse was a two story stone structure built in 1937 under the Public Works Administration. The courthouse was destroyed by fire on December 18, 1957.
- The county rented premises until the third and present courthouse was constructed in 1967 to 1969.
Geography
- Elliott County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Its county seat is Sandy Hook.
