John Ellis was my great great grandfather and was christened in Colne Lancaster in 1802. His mother was Ann Ellis, Spinster with no known father. He was sent here to Australia in 1838 and got his freedom in 1844 and married Mary Ann Bilson at Scot church Sydney Town. He died in 1852 in a flood at Yass and body never found. 90 people died and he did not live in Wales. His birth information comes from his ticket of leave when released. I am trying to find his ancestors

Trevor, have you considered doing a YDNA test? If his mother was Ann Ellis, you could get hints on possible surnames of his father. Then use that information to research in the area Ann was from to see if you can pinpoint his father. If you are interested please message me. Thanks
